Hi, what was or is (still) your favorite music show? The most well-known is Top of the Pops, but the Dutch broadcasting company Veronica had a very famous musicshow that lasted for more than a decade. CountDown was the name of the show. It was a fantastic program. There were live performances, videoclips, interviews, and I believe millions of people watched this program.

You're not too old, maybe it's because that rap and hip-hop stuff rock the charts lately. There are good songs among them too, but sometimes I long to the days of the old artists/groups like Mud, the Who, the Sweet, Slade, Enya, Simple Minds, Queen, Status Quo. They rock big-time as far as I'm concerned.

The Who were amazing at Live 8. I've seen them live and they never let you down. What a band. Have you seen the Kids are Alright movie?

No. I regurlaly watched Countdown when I was a kid. Among my favorite videoclips were 'Sailing Home' from Piet Veerman, Enya with 'Orinoco Flow' and Jan Hammer's 'Crockett's Theme'. The latter one was used as a lullaby for me when I was a baby.

I did a painting (Etain Rising) based on one of Enya's songs 'Fairytale' from her album 'The Celts' it's a famous Celtic legend.

I'll have to scan it first and cut & paste it together as it's an A3 painting and I only have an A4 scanner. 8-[
Give me five mins.

I have read several different versions of this legend and none of them tell the tale in the same way, they all differ, but they all have this common theme.
Midir, King of the Fairies, fell in love with Etain and married her. But after an indescretion on Etains part the King grew jealous and banished Etain and transformed her into a pool of water in a tree covered glade, She had to remain in this liquid state until sunlight struck the pool, after several hundreds of years it did and she was set free, Rising from her liquid form to that of a butterfly and then into a woman (some of the stories say a baby)
I did make one big mistake with this painting all the versions say she had golden hair but as the figuer was based on Enya.........Put it down to artistic licence 8-[

Good Painting, Lonesome. =D>

My dad had once the Eve of the War videoclip recorded on tape, as it was on CountDown somewhere in 1989. Unfortunately the tape on which it was recorded was old, and it also doesn't work anymore. :a010:
So I'm actually also looking for that clip.

The Eve of the War had two entry's in the official Duth Chart: the Top 40. In 1978, the single reached 3rd place, while in 1989 it didn't came further than the 12th position. The album reached in 1978 the 1st place (for one week though, sinds the soundtracks of 'Grease' and 'Saturday Night Fever' wer more popular) and in 1989 it reached the 5th position. I'm wondering for how many weeks the album was on 1st place in the UK... (if it ever reached it, but I'm certain it had).

I had forgotten about 'The Old Grey Whistle Test' I think that was the first place I saw 'Jethro Tull' \:D/ and they're still on the go today or at least Ian Anderson is, he was 90% of Tull.

Thanks 'Klaatu'

Thanks 'George' thats great to hear, I know Ian Anderson has a solo career and feared Tull may have split up.

What I like about Anderson is his vigorous campaign aginst HARD DRUGS. I saw an interview with him a few years back and he said "because He looked like a wild eyed, mad ferret everyone thought he was on drugs", but in fact he has never used class 'A' drugs.

I'll have to keep an eye out for any new albums, 37 years in the business can't be bad.

It was one if Channel 4's earliest shows. Jools Holland hosted it along with Paula Yates. It ran for years Friday Tea Time. U2 played their first TV gig on The Tube.

Thanks. CountDown was one of Veronica's first shows, and it's popularity among the public went through the roof in its first years. I thought my had had recorded some more of the acts on a videotape. I wonder if that tape still works. I watched it on occasion. It contained acts from the Bee Gees, Enya, Jan Hammer, A-ha, Tears for Fears and more...
