I second that! I'd love to see it!

Horsell, are the images in the box set in colour, are they stills from the movie or conceptual? Are the pencil drawings storyboards or conceptial?

that kicks ass my friends.
like the tenticals at the back.
Looks like those little holes on the FM's that Lonesome Crow suggested may be steam ports may be tentical ports.

I am so looking forward to this film. It's going to be the best thing since sliced bread. That handling machine looks soooooo good.
I was wondering if HC knew the approx. running time of the film? Sorry if you've already discussed this in another thread. Will it be similar to the musical as i assume that will form the basis of the soundtrack?

Its far to early to even say if they have any idea's of running time for the film, were still 2 years away.
Glad your enjoying the 'new' footage of the Handling Machine.

Don't mention it, it's just the 4 fragments in total are totally awesome, even the tv commercial is great! And the 10 minute videopresentation at Jeff's site is totally awesome!

And I quote:
"It caught them nimbly and tossed them into a great metal basket upon its back."
I say again: "It caught them nimbly...".
The handling machine should be capable of the same creepy (to me) slow deliberate advance, pause - then sudden disturbing burst of speed as it grabs the humans and quickly places them like fragile eggs (for food they are...) into the collecting basket.

Only that the movement of the machine in the test fotage appeared rather limited and overly mechanical.
Yes I know its test footage.
I just so like the design and feel that the stalk, pause, rush of a spider would suit it perfectly. Of all the mechanisms described by Mr Wells in his marvellous book, the handling machine receives the most detailed attention and the one point the narrator stresses over and again is how almost impossibly organic the handling machine movements seem. Indeed, if memory serves, the narrator had to actually see a Martian in the handling machine before he was sure that indeed this was yet another mechanism, so life like it was.
So my point is that the handling machine should have the most organic movement of all the Martian machines and I think that mimicing a spider would be perfect.

Yes I agree. As I stated in another thread after seeing the new Handling Machine footage "Lets walk a little faster the Handling Machine is after us" I hope it's going to be a bit more agile in the film.
Also it's a shame it's got one too many legs.

I get what your saying now. I totally agree.
The fighting machines are the same. I love the design of the FMs and HMs, but they are way to rigid.
They have to turn their entire bodies to fire the heat ray.
Where as Wells' nimble Tripods obviously could flash the heat ray around 360 degrees, with one of the prehencile tenticals.
I think the CGI team will make them into pretty mean fighting machines.

Hello AnnoyingPurist and welcome back to the board. Long time no see.
nimble/nimbly - agile and quick, mentally alert or acute

Thank you HC.
I have been around, lurking only, since my early Thunderchild posts. Having seen the Spielberg movie I feel totally vindicated - the movie was a mess. His "modernisation" is nothing more than a commercial for the summer blockbuster movie. It is by far the worst celluloid attempt at Wells' book.
Yes I know it was based on the book, but it should not have been. If they'd spend that money and a little more time (instead of rushing it for the summer audience) on making it a period piece then you may have had a Science Fiction classic. As it is you have a trashy, vacuous summer popcorn muncher not worthy of either Wells or Spielberg's name.
And yes I've seem the Pendragon version and while it is indeed mostly risible, I feel it far less worthy of my contempt than Paramount's rubbish. I may even watch it again (Pendragon), but I'll never watch the Paramount version again.
