Last night, Turner Classic Movies (TCM) had an hour documentary about the 1950's sci-fi movies.
One of the partcipants was Steven Spielberg. Included in the show were clips from both the 1953 and 2005 War of the Worlds.
Spielberg touched on a few issues of his WOTW and I was suprised to learn that the aliens coming out of the ground was his tribute to Invaders from Mars. He said that this movie really scared him when he saw it in Winslow, Arizona when he was a kid.
He also stated that if his film would have been made before 9/11, he would have made it somewhat differently.
Ops - I forgot to mention the name of the show.
It was entitled "Watch the Skies" - taken from the original - "The Thing from Another World."
