Any one notice any screw ups in the film? the major one i noticed was that when the lighting struck all the electricals were taken out by the EMP effect..... So how the hell did the bloke with the digital camera get his camra to work? did anyone notice any other screw ups in the film and what were they?

not necessarily a screw up, the camera could be explained away in various ways after all the car was fixed its possible the camera was too.

No they replaced parts of the car with new ones im assuming the emp effect wrecks the power souce and circutry so the camra couldnt have been repaierd that quickly. Who would take the time to repair a camra anyway?

Definitely a digital camera, you see what's going on in the street, through the LED screen.
Well spotted 'Madbadger' I hadn't noticed that one, I was looking out for lights in the houses and traffic lights but couldn't see any, but I missed the camera.

If the EMP were weak enough, it could have been absorbed by whatever he was keeping the camera in. (Some kind of insulatedmeatal box?)

Yeah I keep mine in a lead box along with my big lump of Kryptonite.
I get the feeling it wasn't a weak EMP.

Not that a movie needs to exactly match (known) science, but I was doing a bit of further reading on EMPs and the harm they cause. I won't subject you to it all but it boils down to EMPs not being an absolute killer across the board.
-- Delicate electronics are more vulnerable (computers, cell phones, etc.) whereas heavy duty things, like big motors, are much less so.
-- "Wired" items (desktop computer, land-line phones, etc.) are more vulnerable because the wires act as collector antenae. Descrete items are less vulnerable.
-- An electronic device that is in use is much more vulnerable than one which is off. An "on" device has it's circuits are already 'at' their operational volt/amp levels, so it doesn't take much more to be too much for delicate circuits. A sturdy device (like a flashlight or an electric motor) which is off at the time of the EMP, is much less likely to suffer any damage.
What this suggests, is that the cars on the highway would die because they have delicate electronics AND they were powered up when hit. An older car (with less, if any, electronics) that was not running, would not necessarily be disabled.
That doesn't fix the video camera 'gaff' exactly. It's delicate and more likely to have been fried. (a car's solenoid (as Ray discusses with the mechanic) would be highly unlikely to get fried by an EMP)
But I suppose if the video camera was off when the EMP hit, and not plugged into the wall to recharge, etc., and maybe surrounded by much metal (like in a school/gym locker?) at the time, and farther from the burst source, it might have survived.
The big hype about the weapon-value of an EMP is that it would cripple a lot of the "on" systems, which is often enough the really important stuff (air traffic control systems, communications, power grid, etc.) Not that it would toast every single device. While your refridgerator might not suffer EMP damage, if the power grid's breakers blow, you'd have no power to run it. The net effect is still that your fridge isn't working, but it doesn't mean the fridge itself was damaged.
EMP bursts seem to be developing a story quality of 'magically' negating all electronic devices.

I reckon that the camera wasn't knocked out because the camera was necessary to continue with the plot of the film.
Sorry, sorry. Seriously though, couldn't you just change the batteries?

An EMP only effects live circuits, live electrical devices that are in use.
So the camera is working most likely because it was currently turned off when the EMP device struck New Jersey.
Remember in The Matrix the first one when the good ship (cant remember the name) set off an EMP, they had to turn all the electrical devices on the ship off because they would just get fried if they stayed on.
This same discussion popped up on my forum and this was the conclusion we came up to.

Probably not. If it had been on when the EMP hit, it's circuitry would have been overloaded (fried). The batteries might have, actually, been still okay.
The cars (to answer a different post), were all "on" as they were driving down the highway. As such, their onboard electronics got toasted. That pretty well kills the modern automobile. A good old 60s era car would have puttered right along, oblivious to the burst, since its engine 'electronics' were as sophisticated a coat hanger.
Presumably, parked cars farther from the burst epicenter could still be started. This could be why the military vehicles are (later) working just fine.
We note that the ferry's engines are working fine, as are the generators running the lights along the dock.

God knows im just giving you some facts, and thats EMPS effect live circuits or almost any electrical device that is in use. If a camera is turned off, then it wouldn't of been effected.
Remember in the matrix before they use the EMP they turn off all electrical devices so it does not fry their own ship.

surely the guy was filming the storm thats why he had the camra out. Also when the aliens knock the bike off it moves later and is the other way around with the wheels facing up.

Have to take your word about the bike, I didn't notice that
