No one's said anything in this thread since October. Does anyone know anything new about how the film's coming along, or when it might be ready for release?

I don't know, but I was thinking the same thing a couple of day ago.
Maybe after the success of his Live show, Jeff's been concentrating on the second season of live shows and he's put the film on hold for the time being :-k I hope not :a009:

We don't even know who has written the screenplay or if indeed there is one.

I took a browse on thewaroftheworlds.com, and apparantly they've done 9 minutes of "completed" scenes, and most of the time is being spent on the live tours. Doesnt look like its coming out anytime soon :(

9 minutes doesnt sound promising does it? :a009: That's probably less than 10% of the film, At this rate it'll be 2020 before it's finished. :a010:

Judging by what I've seen of footage so far. The test samples of FM's and HM's walking and the images in the live show, they have a long way to go to reach the incredibly high standards of modern CGI. They need to apply dirt and dints to the FM's. And just get the whole thing looking a lot more realist. There is no character to the FM's walk. Every-thing's to clean and rigid. Lets face you could make an incredible JF War of the Worlds, with the top graphics and dynamics. But you'd have to put your hand in your pocket and I'm not sure Wayne has dug deep enough here. It's a risky movie to make.
I really do hope he pulls it off and proves me wrong though.

I get the feeling Jeff's ditched this project, at least for the time being.

If it was going to be out this year I'm sure we would have heard something about it by now :a009:

maybe he'll do it one day but I think production costs for this project would be very high and his market research is probably telling him the world isn't ready for another war of the worlds movie.

I'm almost afraid to ask if anyone's got any more update information. Of course, from what I'm reading in the newspapers, everyone in Britain's taken to the lifeboats by now. Good luck, guys!

Or perhaps they are working on it and they don't want to give us any spoilers anymore, perhaps there is also a delay in production. :|

I doubt if that is the case 'oever532', any producer with any sense would want to advertise their product as much as possible, not bury it.

I agree. Animation films such as Shrek have set a high standard of CGI. War of the Worlds would be for adults and most adults would want it to look as good as Shrek or Final Fantasy, that's going to cost big money. The animation we have seen so far, in the test footage and live shows is fairly low standard. Now because it's an adult movie, then who is going to go and see it? We will because we are fans of the book but it is a dangerous game for Jeff to play and people have just seen the Spielberg version and thought the end was crap etc. I think Jeff has had trouble getting backing and investment in this movie and bailed.

If it isn't the best CGI put on screen yet then it could bomb and lose millions. Lots of animation movies have, such as Iron Giant.

I was going to bring this thread forward to 2008 by asking if there's any news yet, but I have a sick feeling that I already know the answer. :alien2:

We can still hope... Perhaps Jeff Wayne has had it really busy lately that he may have put the project on hild...

I don't think he's doing the work himself, he'll probably have a team of experts doing the animation  so I think you can rule out "him being too busy". it's more likely a financial reason.

That may be possible too; the tours are demanding a lot, despite the winnings he may earn...

Hey, I liked The Iron Giant. (I always seem to like things others don't. Gets really bad when it's a type of food I like, and it gets discontinued. )
As for this, might revenue from the tour be used for the CGI movie? Obviously, the tour took precedence, but could there still be hope that high enough tour revenue could allow for high-end CGI? Plus, there'd be the added bonus of recognition: "You've heard the album, you've experienced the tour, now see the film! Coming in 2009."

Insert witty, yet philosophical remark here...
