When I first heard that a big budget WOTW film was bieng made, I was excited, filled with imaginings of tripods, martians, victorian england, and cylinders falling from the sky. To hear that it was going to be a modern setting was a little sadening but then the teaser trailer made me feel all goosebumpy so I thought maybe itl be ok. However the more I read and see, the more I feel that this film is no longer a WOTW film but just another invastion film.
The martians are not martians at all, just from 'out there'

QUOTE "Why are the aliens no longer from Mars?

Rick Carter – I don’t know if anyone believes that there’s anything on Mars now. I think it’s just more from ‘out there.’" end QUOTE

The alien landings are made to sound figurative and hazy

QUOTE "What I would say is that it’s about how those aliens present themselves in our world, so that what I’m trying to get at is there’s a mystery to it. There’s a cause and effect so that a lot of what the aliens are about – and they’re tripods and I’m allowed to say that – they’ve been here and that’s why the [cells] are already here. There’s a way that they’re activated. So that, in a sense, it is about something that’s already here from our subconscious coming up." end QUOTE

No scenes from around the world.

Yet again we get to see ole USA attacked like there the only one worth invading even though the rest of the world is seen in the teaser. This is starting to look more like SIGNS than WOTW!

Red weed is a 'cultural' thing!

QUOTE" So I would just say, yes, the red weed is there and it’s a part of how they - in their culture - are using our planet. Whether you specifically know exactly why they did it, that’s a whole other thing."

By the book??? You decide!

QUOTE" Is this a re-imagining of “War of the Worlds?” How is it classified?

Doug Chiang – A re-adaptation?

Rick Carter – An imaginative re-adaptation." End QUOTE

Cylinder landing??? sort of....

QUOTE" Will there be the big cylinder opening bit that’s a staple in “War of the Worlds” films and knock-offs?

Rick Carter – A version of it. It’s not been lost. That moment that you think that you want because you saw it that way is not lost in this new, imaginative, re-adaptation."

What I see from this interview,, (
http://romanticmovies.about.com/od/waro ... 022305.htm)

is that this really is only war of the worlds in concept really, not in truely telling the story as wells wrote it. I'm sure that we will all be blown away by the visual effects and will probably enjoy the film in its own right. I think that in my opinion we should be putting our hopes on pendragons offering this year but personally I am looking forward to Jeffs version. Those green eyed martians always get my vote!!!

Maybe you dont agree with me...I hope Im wrong. ONLY TIME WILL TELL!!!!!

<---may your martians be as green as this one!!!!!

peter AKA LEPTER!
