Wow, I didn't realise you were the infamous Peter. Fantastic drawing, I wish I could draw like that. Truly amazing.

Just in case you can't workout what you are looking at in the handling machine pic, here's a sketch, side view.[attachmentid=37]

The design has changed a bit since I drew that, the basket on its back has gone,Wells does not mention it. Its only in the musical version. and the hood looks more like the fighting machines hood now.

I love the handling Machine and I really like the basket. It feels right to have one. It's been worth joining this forum to see your work. You the man.

very cool pictures, by the way on the subject of the Thunder Child, how does the picture on the front of the musical measure up to the ships description?

Not very well, frankly, which isn't to deny the painting's dramatic impact. If you look at these threads on another forum, you'll see an interminable discussion I took part in which I basically argue that the 'Thunder Child' is completely fictional, or, rather, is inspired by a real vessel (the one and only torpedo ram the RN ever built, HMS Polyphemus) but only in a loose way. The 'Thunder Child' is really a chimera, a pick 'n' mix warship composed of the best parts of various late Victorian types:

TC thread 1
TC thread 2

She has the type-name and speed of Polyphemus, the bulk of an ironclad, and the guns of, at the very least, a cruiser, possibly a full-blown ironclad battleship.

i see well in that case i'm looking forward to what Pendragon come up with since theyre trying to go as close to the book as possible.

i didnt think the musical artworks' Thunder Child would be all that close considering that the tripods also a pretty far cry from the description too, but as you say thats not to deny the impact of that picture

If this behind-the-scenes photo from Pendragon...

Pendragon 'Thunder Child'?

...is anything to go by, they're depicting 'Thunder Child' as an 1890s torpedo boat destroyer (the CGI ship on the screen and the presence as reference of David Lyons' book 'The First Destroyers' certainly point in that direction).

I'm happy enough with that, they were very glamorous vessels, and at least they'd be getting the period right (I said it in another forum, but those shots in the execrable 'Pearl Harbour' of obviously modern warships being 'bombed' by pyrotechnic effects, bleurgh... At least in other shots they'd created some excellent CGI battleships, why did they spoil them with such howlers?).

Pearl Harbor was lamentable to say the least, i dont think Pendragon could make a bigger mistake than that if they tried
