Yep. All those rails, and apparently the trains themselves, and probably any metal bridges they come across: all raw building materials for their projected supergun that will send them back home.
Eh, I just had a nasty thought: If these Martians are vulnerable to terrestrial bacteria, and some of them DO manage to go home, won't that mean that Earth's diseases will be transmitted to the general Martian population?

He he. I like the way the others were on rout to Venus and got diverted by the others. And the crystal egg bit with the more upright Martian is class.

Maybe it's just as well for this group if they don't make it back home. They're going to have an awful lot to answer for to the Martian High Command. Already they've:
1) Bungled the navigation and landed on the wrong planet.
2) Lost the genetically-engineered lifeforms (the "aliens") that would eliminate all Venusian life-forms and make Venus suitable for Martian colonization.
3) Started an unauthorized war with the human race (remember, in THIS version, the Martians don't WANT to conquer Earth, but Venus).
4)Diverted to Earth those cylinders that were on the proper course to Venus, thus compounding their original error and eliminating any chance of salvaging something from the operation. This entire expedition must be at least as expensive to them as D-Day or the Moon landings were to us, and their world is already short on resources. For all we know, they might not be able to scrape together enough material to launch a second expedition, thus dooming their entire race. Wasn't Sharon generous when she permitted her mother to take the "credit" for everything?

That's because Sharon's smart and knows how to protect her ass. Or does she??
I've just finished picture five of the next twelve, so I should be posting the next section before the end of the week, with any luck.

You need wait no longer.
If you are wondering about the accuracy of the Martian's map in the first picture I can confirm that it is "The little hill beyond Pyrford Church" as described in the book. My thanks go to Google Maps, a fantastic and very useful tool.

Well lets see, I've used; Daleks (owned by the BBC), Alien (owned by Twentieth Century Fox), as well as using H G. Wells' original story-line (owned by Jeff Wayne) if I tried to publish this and make money out of it, the queue of people wanting to sue my arse would be a mile long
 But thanks anyway
