Today when I try and open photoshop it is failing to do saying I don't have enough RAM. It has always opened before. My Hardrive is 73% free.
Any ideas what the problem is?

RAM is not the same as your Hard Drive. Have you tried restarting your PC? If so try right clicking on My Computer and then properties and check your RAM size against what it should be (that's if you know what it should be, check your operating manual), you may have lost a memory stick. Let me know how it goes.

Depending on how much RAM your PC has, it may be on more than one RAM strip (don't know the exact term, but it's basically a strip of RAM chips - it looks like a narrow rectangular circuit board with several chips on it, around 4-inches or so in length). If you have more than one strip, one may have died, leading to a loss of that amount of RAM on that strip (typically they come in 256Mb strips, sometimes in 512Mb strips). Say you have a PC with 512Mb RAM, but one day it only has 256Mb - chances are the memory consists of two 256Mb RAM strips and one has carked it. So you need to check how much RAM you should have, and how is actually available.
A RAM chip strip looks like this:
http://www.myfastpc.com/ram.html
The lower edge, you'll notice, has dozens of little copper connections - that edge simply plugs into a slot on the PC's motherboard, which looks like this:
http://onlineelectronicsinc.com/faq/definitions.html
The label reading 'Memory Slot' refers to the slots the RAM strips plug in to.

If there's nothing wrong with your RAM try the trouble-shooting section in your 'Photo-Shop' program (You don't need the program open to do this you can view the 'Help file' by going to the Photo-Shop program in your 'Program Files' when you've found it, right click and chose 'explore') and see what it says about insufficient RAM. The Help file should look like a blue circle with a ? in the center and HLP written below.

It doesn't have an explore option when I right click on it. Photoshop Image Ready 0.7 opens just fine though.

It doesn't show me any RAM. Just disk space.

384 MB 0f RAM it says. Shouldn't that be enough to open Photoshop 0.7
I can't remember if that was what it always was or if I've lost some.

I don't know Loz, It doesn't sound like enough to me, but I'm no expert.
Do you still have the packaging that PhotoShop 0.7 came in? It might say there what your PC requires to run the program.
The only other thing I can suggest is to search on the net and see if it's a common problem with PhotoShop.

Sounds like I've lost a rod then. I think I might still be under guarantee. so I'll get it checked. I know it had a fairly high RAM. and it always worked before.
I don't have the box because, it's second hand.

Did you read the link 'McTodd' posted for the RAM Stick? it said Quote: If you are looking to build a basic system, 512 MB of RAM will do perfectly fine for simple emailing or Internet browsing.
Considering the relatively low prices for RAM however (and the exponential performance enhancement), I recommend for a medium budget 1024 MB of memory, and for higher-end computers, as much RAM as you can stomach to pay for (or can fit in your computer).
This makes your 384 MB of Ram sound too low.
How old is your PC? 384 MB of RAM is very low for a modern PC, it's more like something you would expect from a computer ten of fifteen years old.
My advice is take all your porn off and get it into the PC Doctor ASAP

Maybe you should defragement the computer, maybe that helps, too.

Defragging your PC from time to time is a good idea, it will speed up the processing of information and if you have had your PC for three years and never defragged your boot drive it will need doing but it has nothing to do with RAM which processes the information before it is stored on the hard-drive.

I defrag regularly. I've obviously lost a ram rod. I'll get it looked at next week and let you know the outcome.
