With Jeff Wayne's CGI movie planned release for 2007, does this new film really need any of the albums narration. . . . YES & NO I would say.

The opening sequence to the 1978 album has the haunting tones of Richard Burtons voice echoeing H.G's famous lines of 'No one would have beleived', this would fit perfectly into the opening of the film. The end of the Thunder Child would have 'The Earth belonged to the Martians'. The opening of the Red Weed again could feature 'Next day the dawn was a briliant fiery red' while the closing of the film would have 'The future belongs not to us, but to the Martians'. . . . But what about the rest of the film with narration, personaly I don't think it needs it. The images seen will show us what we need to know, like the narration tells us what we long to see that we can't in the album. . . Using just those 'key' eliments of a small fraction of narration would work, fill in a couple of blanks and open the next phrase of the film up.

But what are your views and points on this?

H_C

well i could do without any more unfaithfulness on the WOTW front, but then again this is Waynes own work so i dont think anything he produces can be unfaithful to the original, much as if Wells were still around today and he was behind a WOTW film nobody could argue it wasnt a true adaptation. And we'd get to find out what Fighting Machines actually looked like inside his mind :D

but yeah id like the narration

Even though the narration probably wont be necessary with all the visuals, I'd like to see it stay - I think those narrations could help keep the overall tone of the visuals in check, esp. if it has Richard Burton's voice.

Yep, even if was just Burtons voice at the start, I think that would be great

The narration and music from the jeff wayne version is has been imprinted on my mind since childhood and that opening line from burton still sends a shiver up my spine now and i'm 33! , so i would love to see the narration stay and maybe frighten a whole new generation of fans who may not have heard of most of the people involved in the project.

Agree with all of the above. Narration stays. Burton stays.

When they bring it out on DVD you might have the option to choose with or without narration

It has to have the first bit of Narration right up to, "They drew their plans against us."

But after that it won't be needed. That's the album, but this is animation and visuals and dialogue will replace Narration.

I don't think it should have any of the songs either, much as I love them and no the lyrics of by heart, I just don't think they would work in this medium.

Maybe just "The chances of anything coming from Mars...." bit.
