I wonder who is going to be voicing the various roles in this CGI version?

I'd like to hear David Essex back in there.

Nigel Hawthorn sounded good in the PC and PS games

Who will voice the journalist. It can't be Burton because it won't be Narration but in the moment.

I wonder about that too.
Details on this are pretty scarxe at the moment as the movie is in it's early stages still.
Word is, though, that rather than it being a musical film, it will be a film in which the music is strongly featured, if you can see the distinction. So no dancing tripods then.
I think a nice idea would for the songs to be featured in visual set pieces.
For example, with 'Forever Autumn', we would see images of the Narrator and Carrie walking in a park, indespersed with images of Carrie's steamer pulling away and leaves falling.. That kind of thing. The rest of the film would be normal, with Jeff's music used as a backing.
I'd certainly like to see the surviving cast members reprise their roles.
Burton's narration, whilst not really necessary throughout, could be used at the outset and at point where dialogue isn't possible or a point has to be made.
Someone like Sean Pertwee would be good to play the Journalist in the dialogue scenes, I think. He has a similar kind of quality to his voice as Burton had.

some songs could work that way. but not thunder child or spirit of man becuase they describe what is happening or are coversation in song as is brave new world. so forever autumn could work, as you say as a flash back of a romance, with moments of the now. chances of anything coming from mars could still be in there. but i doubt any of the songs will. it's a film that as you say will draw on the origional music as a score. even the ullas are going to be different..

My brother is an inventor and he's knocking up a cryogenic chamber for me. As soon as I've seen Asylum, Pendragon and parramount versions of War of the Worls then I'm getting into it and going into hybernation till 2007. Then I'm going to watch Jeff Wayne's CGI version of the good book and then I can die and go to heaven.

As long as Tom Cruise isn't in it. I'd hate for something good to be ruined again. Rather see a thunderbird puppet acting at least that has more character.
