Hello and yes, I am a first time poster.

I'm a massive fan of the Jeff Wayne version to be honest, although I have read the book, but it was about 15 years ago.

I was wondering if the 'red weed' played a part in the original book and will it feature in the Pendragon version of the film. Does anyone have a clue?

Also, does anyone agree that its a pity that neither new version of the film could have collaborated with Jeff Wayne and his music for their versions.

Hi

Yes the red weed is in the book, pretty much the same as in the record but there were different types, red weed, red vine etc. I don't know if it's in the Pendragon version of the film. but I have seen photos of it in the Paramount film.

-_- Collaboration with Jeff Wayne wouldn't be such a good idea, he's making his own film, out in 2007. this way we get 3 films not just 2 :D

As Pendragon are doing the adaptation of our much loved book i would have pressumed that the Red Weed must feature in the film at some point. In the book it refers to 'white patches' (i think) appearing on the red weed as it is also attacked by our earthly bacteria.I think it dies and crumbles away relatively quickly after the fall of the Martians but dont quote me on that one.......The Curate will have to open up this holy book given to us by the master of all Sci-Fi and consult the sacred scriptures.I will get back to you and hold a sermon regarding these issuses.Let us pray......No-one would have believed in the year of 1898 that a writer and visionery vast and cool was gonna give us a book from the timeless world of his own mind.Few men even had any idea that this piece of work was gonna have us all strung out on it over 100 years later and yet across the gulf of England...a man living in Woking began writing a book and the rest is history..................amen!!!!!!!!!!!!(just for a laugh) :alien32:

More reinforcement for my view that this will have more of Wells' ideas in it than a lot of people think.

:alien4: Those people at paramount are just film makers in another form. They were waiting for a sign from him(spielberg)and now they are destoying our book.....but they are not devils or Martians. On the nineth day we saw the film makers meeting....on the set of their new production they were tearing the pages from our beloved book and re-writing the text with their own crayons.I saw a production crew member entering a library. In the sci-fi section,he caught our book nimbly and tossed it up to a giant script re-writer sat on his back.I must leave here,i thought........then the ghost of H.G Wells appeared and said...'look,the library in Woking is still standing, come Curate...quickly'.We took shelter in the library and the Paramount film makers spread all around us 'hemming' us in.Then Steven Spielberg came across the road saying 'our text you must read'.....ULLAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAA!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

-_- I guess that if this forum was, lets say,The Matrix................Then that would mean that i am Neo wouldn't it?(saw a dragon the other day holding a pen).Over the wk\end a lad i know knocked on my front door.(this is a true story)Anyway,Paddy was very excited and went on to say that he had some news that i would find very interesting. His eyes lit up as he went on to say this;'Jeff,Jeff...........guess whats coming out this year, you'll never believe it'.....'Whats that then Paddy' i asked.'Its only a new film called The War of The Worlds. Its a Steven Spielberg Film.(That day Paddy wasn't invited in for tea and biscuits as usual.Instead,Paddy spent the afternoon in silent prayer and confessing his wrongs as a sinner. After i had made him scrub the floor of my church and put out the bibles for sunday,i sent him on his way with a dragon called puff and one of my best byro pens).(I think that Lee will have something to say about the matrix bit)
