I wonder if it would have been the war to end all wars. what would we have learned from our near defeat at the hands (tenticals) of the Martians.

In the Watchmen Adrian Vedt uses a fake alien invasion to unite humanity and avoid armageddon.

As for the rest of the poster. The handling machine looks too different in style to the fighting machine. The fighting machines look retro and the handling machine looks fairly modern.

What do you think?

It's begining to look like a desperate attempt to get something/anything in the public domain [-o< , just to keep the thing alive. :(
As you say the images don't match

I'm still not convinced by that image.
It's probably a mock up to keep us strung along as has been suggested.
Those Chicken FMS do not match with the HM at all.. It's too weird.

Chicken FMS is a good description, I don't like the way the legs curve up, it looks like its melting. and the HM looks far too spindly in comparison.
something very iffy about it.

It's like they only seem to have ONE picture of each thing. I remember seeing the tripod pic in the scans eveorfwar posted of a magazine article. Aside from being dismayed with the design, I remember being confused by the claim that the movie was shot in a sepia tone...considering that this was not evident in the trailers or any other screenshots.

From a design/marketing sense, it's a pretty bad cover. It looks like they threw whatever was lying around into Photoshop and hit "Puree".

The only thing thats simmilar in both machine designs is the sauge on a string tenticals.

Good point about the images always being the same. Lets see a different angle.
