Well actually you are in fact dead, you didn't escape the Marians as you believe but are actually all that remains of a Martian experiment with the Human Soul. They sucked yours out through your nostrals with one of their little pippettes and injected it into a sort of sponge like thingymagig and attached wires to it. They then fed in the life that you think you are living, which is nothing more than data. The sponge you inhabit is still under that house. I hope this explains a few things?

Thats just one of the books actual myths to wether i died or not.The martians only dragged me from the ruined house while i was 'out cold' from a tap on the 'nappa' by that bloody writer. It wasn't me they were interested in in the first place,it was the journalist for all the bad press he was giving them. They let me go coz i told the martians i was a pacafist

That's what they want you to think! Don't you get it Curate your just a plaything to them!!!!!! Look theirs a team of us trying to dig you up at the pit. We are going to try and rescue your soul from that sponge. Trouble is we don't know what to house your spirit in next. Maybe we could dig up Phil Lynott and inject you into his cadaver. Then you could sing Spirit of Man even better than he did.
Aha I think we just found you.... No no just a copper rod and a pippette.
Keep looking men, he's here somewhere.

Your right way of track. Lets get back on it again.
Backward Interlects. Wells's Martians are held back by Wells's inabiltity to know what accomplishments were just ahead of us at the time. Such as flight. And the power of our weapons. In only 100 years we a closing the gap on Martian Technolagy somewhat. The martians in the book are meant to have minds imeasurably superior to our own and yet make mistakes that we would never make. They don't seem to have computers or artificial inteligence of any sort such as guided missiles. So if you set it today as Parramount have you have to update their interlects. The beauty of Pendragons version is that we can have the Martians at Wells's level. They won't though they'll probably give them computers and stuff.
The way you can justify some of this backwardness on the Martians behalf is to root it in the fact that they are close to the end on their homeworld. The Martian resources are almost nil and they have bits and bobs to build their invasion with. So scrutinizing us and recognizing the abillities of Victorian man, the Martians plan an invasion based on this. No need to build spaceships and hover over the Capitals. Just fire a bunch of low tech low cost, low on resource Cylanders containing five Martians and equipment necassary to establish a beachhead on Earth.
Set it now and the firts Cylander might catch us of guard, and I doubt it, but any others would be targeted and destroyed.
They've probably got jamming devices that mess up all our computers and weaponry in the Parramount version.
I'd love to see a film to be as close as possible to the source.
The Martians use pippetts to suck the blood out of their victims and inject it into their own vains. Pippetts, those tubes with a rubber ballon thing at one end. This is low tech stuff, but I love it. As we've seen from the trailer, even Pendragon have something a little more high tech than that.
The fact that the Martians bring a food supply in the form of the biped creatures is interesting, lot of wastage of space there. Why didn't they have a blood bank on board? This can all add to Martian character, ie they dont do this because it is against custom. Has to be fresh blood straight from the vain.
Its almost a shame that wells never wrote a prequel explaining some of the martian history and the events that led to the invasion .

He did mention it briefly at the end of his short story 'The Star' The Martians astronomers see how vulnerable we are and start planning

If I might chime in, One thought that had occurred to me when reading, was that the Martians brought with them only what their 'intellect' deemed necessary for the job (of wiping out the simple/crude humans). Taking my cue from Wells' inspiration for the story -- the British wiping out of the Tasmanians. When the British were dealing with the Tasmanians in the 1830s (not taking any stand on whether there was a "genocide, or ethnic cleansing or just a territorial war at work), the British were not using the utmost that British techno-industry could produce. They used what was handily portable enough to work far from "home." Muskets would seem plenty of technopower for 1830s British dealing with spear-toting Aboriginies. A battery of 12 pounders, firing grape shot, would have been vastly more deadly than muskets. But, while such big guns were within the 1830 British intellect's abilities, they weren't deemed necessary enough for the bother of getting them there.

Bottom line? Maybe the Martians only brought what they thought was really necessary to deal with us simple humans, not the utmost their civilizaton was capable of. Of course, there's a lovely undercurrent theme in the thought of a vastly superior intellect underestimating its victims, falling prey rather than victorious, due to a bit of ego on their part. cheers
