Pictures From The Archives The War Of The Worlds (1953) All images from the Jonathan Smith Collection Art director Al Nozaki at work upon a series of storyboards for George Pals 1953 science fiction classic The War Of The Worlds. Al Nozaki designed the now famous 'manta ray' style War Machines and in the above image you can see one of the early models he created. Note: the machine is siting atop of tripod legs and the Heat Ray arm emerges from the rear of the machine instead of the top. A photograph showing the designs of the Mars War Machines before construction on them began. One of the studio sculptors at work upon a Mars War Machine for The War Of The Worlds. Special effects and camera crew prepare one of the models of the War Machines for a film shoot. Note: the slate on the bottom right of the photo has the name Burt Lancaster printed upon it in chalk - (reads - Burt Lancaster, Make Up). |

Wow. Wow. Things surely are echoed here, like we're in a cave. Things surely are echoed here, like we're in a cave. |
