I liked the first two Alien movies, and the first Predator, but gave up on both franchises after that. (Or is it one franchise now, since they are combined stories?)
Re: Cloverfield, if you like beast films, it's pretty effective. But yes, if you're prone to motion sickness, make sure you're sitting well back from the screen (or tv if you're watching the dvd when it comes out). Oh, and don't expect everything to be tied up nice and pretty by the end, as there are lots of loose ends; it's one thing I liked about the film!
I'm not a 'hack and slash' fan; I don't like gory stories of people mutilating other people. That's not to say I never watch anything gory, I just prefer monster flicks to psycho killer flicks.As has been said already, different tastes for different people. (I understand zombies prefer brains, for example.)
