The film suffered from poor special effects but for me was and still is my favourite film. I love the world that is portrayed, the dumbness of it all, the score is superb. Peter Ustinoff is beautiful as the old man.

It's one of those rare films where it is actually far better than the book.

They are remaking it but more in keeping with the book this time.

Jenny Agutter was extremely sexy in her role as Jessica 6.

The Carousel sequences used to really frighten me.

The series was pretty bad as I remember, but I watched back in the 70's.

Fair doos. Your not alone. There is something about that film that got under my skin as a kid and has never left me. But it has terrible effects and I don't know many who share my love for it.

I enjoyed it when I was a kid (basically because Jenny Agutter got her kit off) some of the scenes of Washington in ruins were good too. but the special FX have not stood the test of time well.

I have been trying to remember the title of a New Zealand film I saw many years back, the title was something like 'the last man on earth' or' the last man alive' somethig like that. it was about every living creature on earth disappearing all at the same time except this one fella (later you find more people alive) it turned out the only people who survived, were people who were on the verge of death just before the incident happened. the main character was just committing suicide when the world ended for everyone else. the film was very good and left a deep impression on me. the main character dies again at the end of the film at the same time as the world dies again and he is transported to a fantastic alien world.

Anyone got any ideas of the title?

I just had a look on the net and I found it, it's called 'The Quiet Earth' http://www.nzvideos.org/quiet.html If you haven't seen it, it's well worth a viewing.

It's not to be mistaken with 'The Omega Man' starring the gun-crazy Charlton Heston.

If you enjoyed "The Omega Man" you should read '48 by James Herbert, one of his best books. Very much like "The Omega Man" but better, a lot better. =D>

Read it as soon as it came out and loved it. The idea that you couldn't even go near the docks because of all the rotten fish still stinking to high heaven 3 years later was a great bit of detail.
One of my fave books of all time is Fluke By Herbert. I've read it about 5 times. \:D/

A Few Logan's Run Details

During his Superman Returns panel at Comic-Con International, director Bryan Singer answered a question from the audience about his remake of the '70s sci-fi film Logan's Run, which he will proceed to after finishing Superman Returns next year.

Apparently, the film is already in the design phase, and he said that his movie will be a mix of the book, the original film as well as his own stuff and confirmed that the palm crystals and the concept of "Renewal" will remain in his version.

This remake has been on the cards for quite a few years now. First of all it was going to be totally based on the book with no elements of the film.
The book is not in my opinion a great read. The film is better. A rare case.
In the book there is no domed city, it is set in a future LA.

You want to read Pierre Boulle's 'The planet of the Apes', both the old and new films are better than the book :|

Wow, this is an old thread, but I finally found it.

I love the film Logan's Run. One of the last big-budget sci-fi films made before Star Wars turned SF on its ear, and one I remember seeing with my mom when I was very young. I have the DVD, of course, and the expanded limited edition soundtrack (Jerry Goldsmith fan, here). Oh, and because of this film, Jenny Agutter was one of my first movie star crushes. Come to think of it, she was one of a very few.
The tv series was disapointing to me as a kid, because it was little more than runing around outside. I wanted to see more of the City. I wanted it to eventually end up going back there, like the movie did. Oh, well.

Off-topic, but in reply to posts about it: The Quiet Earth is one of my favourite 'last man on Earth' films. Very interesting tale in an often-overused genre. My biggest complaint is the matte work in the finale; it isn't quite realistic enough to awe me as it intended to, and takes me out of the scene and reminds me that it's just a movie. Doesn't help that the case for the film (and the soundtrack cd I have) ruined the surprise by showing that very scene on the front cover! (At least in America.) That's like showing the Staute of Liberty on the cover of the orginal Planet of the Apes, or showing the alien mothership on the cover of Close Encounters of the Third Kind. (Both of which occurred with the American packaging.) :a013:

Yes I agree, it's stupid showing the final scene of a film on the DVD box cover, it would be like showing the Death Star exploding on the cover of a Star Wars. :-k Sorry, should I have put up a spoiler warning before revealing that little secret? :-k
But I must disagree with you over the matte work in the finale of 'The Quiet Earth' , I love that scene and the picture, the ringed planet rising above the horizon and those strange cloud formations, you were left with an "Oh My God! What next?!" type of feeling. Great for it's age. =D>

Conceptually, it was great. Maybe it just looks bad on my old VHS tape copy. I have yet to find the film on DVD. :(

SPOILERS!
As for concept, I can't help but feel pity for the poor main character, stranded who-knows-where with only his tape recorder to keep him company (or to mock him). I mean, if after the first Effect, only a few people were left in New Zealand (and by extrapolation, perhaps only a few score worldwide), what are the chances that another person died the same time as him the second time around? And in his new 'life,' he hasn't even got familiar surroundings!
END SPOILERS!

So, back to Logan's Run, then...

OK Logan's Run and the lovely Jenny Agutter.
Has Jenny Agutter ever made a film where she doesn't get her kit off? :-k
I was going to say 'The Railway Children' but even in that she takes off her petty-coat and uses it as a flag to stop the train.

:-k No, I can't think of any.
