I agree. I believe some more mentions to H.G. Wells and War of the Worlds are made.

Recovering Star Trek fan here... in other words, I've grown tired of the whole franchise over the years.
But I still like some of it, as I invested so much time & effort into buying blueprints, building models (or at least starting several... really should finish those some day), reading some of novels & much of the non-fiction.
I just don't go out of my way for it anymore.
Regardless of all that, I never noticed that the Akira-class vessel USS Thunderchild didn't spell its name Thunder Child until you guys pointed it out just now. I'd always read it as HG Wells had spelled it, since that's where I knew the name for so many years, and figured that was where ST producers had gotten it from as well.
Well, what do you know?
(And in a regression to my ST nerd-dom, I actually just dug out my old ST: The Magazine issues & the Starship Spotter book to confirm that the name is misspelled. I have the stuff, I might as well use it!)

Looks like you were pretty high into that stuff, weren't you?

Admittedly, yes. Ironically, I didn't get Starship Spotter til a few years after it came out, and after I'd tired of the ST thing in general; it was only $5 US in a clearance bin, so I figured I might as well pick it up. I never bothered when it first came out because it was all flash & no substance, as a lot of the 'official' ST publications became. I expected a starship book to have more than one beauty shot & one wireframe picture of each ship. I wasn't expecting deck-by-deck blueprints, but would it have killed them to include a few more external views of the ships, or some detail shots? Sheesh!
Um, so, what were we discussing, then?

I will. There have also been some Star Trek games around.
