CONTAINS SPOILERS.

I saw this remake today, and I think it just contains everything that's wrong with current Hollywood studio mainstream film-making. There's almost no subtlety, an over-reliance on CGI tomfoolery, the so-called 'scares' are all crude shocks that are telegraphed well in advance, and the film-makers are so terrified that the target teen audience with their short attention spans will get bored and start fidgeting in their seats that something happens roughly every five minutes - be it a special effect or a violent act.

The result is a movie with car crashes, people bursting into flames, numerous characters getting thrown with great force through doors and windows, and lengthy sequences in which both lead actresses walk around in their underwear. Plus the individuals attacked on the Seagrass - middle-aged fishermen in the original film - are now much younger, and include two bikini-clad babes. There are also several scenes were something totally ridiculous happens, that makes no sense at all, but has clearly been included because someone thought "hey, that'll look cool" (eg: the dining table and chairs on the beach, the woman charred to a skeleton by a hand emerging from the kitchen sink, and the fate of Elizabeth Grace's character).

That said, despite all it's flaws, just enough of this film works to make me wonder how good it might have been, if it hadn't been put through the whole 'film-making by committee' blender which squeezed out any of it's potential in order to make it a safe, sanitised, rigidly formulated horror, safe for the popcorn-munching American masses.

Is this a film version of James Herbert's 'The Fog'? because from your description I didn't recognise anything from the book. :-k

I'll answer that. No, it's a remake of the John Carpenter's classic horror flick. Which is totally different to Jame's Herbert's classic and not a patch on it either.

No mountain of mad folk indulging in an orgy in the middle of London in either of these two movies I'm afraid. :a009:
