An independent U.S. film company called HPLHS Motion Pictures is releasing a direct-to-DVD movie version of H.P. Lovecraft's The Call of Cthulhu.

However, it's not your typical adaptation. Here's the word from the film's official site;

Written in 1926, just before the advent of "talking" pictures, The Call of Cthulhu is one of the most famous and influential tales of H.P. Lovecraft, the father of gothic horror. Now the story is brought richly to life in the style of a classic 1920s silent movie, with a haunting original symphonic score. Using the "Mythoscope" process — a mix of modern and vintage techniques, the HPLHS has worked to create the most authentic and faithful screen adaptation of a Lovecraft story yet attempted.
The DVD includes The Call of Cthulhu (47 minutes, black and white), the high-fidelity and "Mythophonic" soundtracks, a 25 minute "making-of" documentary featurette, two slide shows, deleted footage, a prop PDF of the Sydney Bulletin and more.

Sounds good, thanks 'uber Fenris' I'm a fan of Lovecraft's work
Back in 1988 I was asked by Landfall Productions (they were an Audio Book company) to create CD covers for four of Lovecraft's books; The Call of Cthulhu, The Thing On The Doorstep, Herbert West Reanimator and The Lurking Fear. CDs were Quite new back then and the company decided to use cassettes instead so the art work was never used :a009:

Please do.

There is a computer game about to be released of The Call of Cthulhu.

I remember the RP game, I had some of the lead figures.

OK this is a mock-up I did a few years late, originally I only sent the main pictures to Landfall Productions the text and arangment would have been set by them.
As you can see three of them are photos with quite a lot of air-brush work on top but the Cthulhu piece is a painting only, I think this maybe why they were rejected.

Superb work! I love the head in the jar, but the eyes on the Thing on the Doorstep, eeurgh, they creep me out...

Which is good, all things considered!

What a shame they weren't used, they really are splendid.

You should see the pictures they did use for the cassettes. My 13 year old niece could have done better.

OK, here are three more Lovecraft covers I painted for my own amusement.
There's the stone circle from 'The Dunwich Horror'
the remains of the journalist Edward Petherbridge (I think I've remembered his name right) from 'The Haunter of the Dark'.
And one of my favourite Lovecraft stories 'The Rats in the Walls'

Creepy. That reminds me of a grossy scene in 'Raiders of the Lost Ark'.

Great use of perspective. =D>
So many artists fail to make skeletons look right. Yours are perfect. Very creepy. I can't believe the bad luck you've had. You should be a full time artist, for album covers, books, magazines etc. Beautiful. How long did the bottom two take? Do you do a preperatoin painting first?

Only one of my painting has ever been used for a CD cover (as far as I know). I have designed the team shirt logo for my local Ice hockey team 'The Humberside Seahawks' I've done a few covers for magazines and travel brochures, for companies like Northsea Ferries and several posters for The Cunard Line.
And there was even a court case in America over one of my paintings of the 'R.M.S Titanic. I had to submit an affidavit saying I had painted it.

They would have taken me about three to four hours, most of the work is done with an airbrush and the fine detail put in with a paint brush and coloured pencils. and yes I always do a rough sketch first, usually very, very small ones, that way I can draw fast and not worry about detail I very rarely do painted roughs.
