They are in good condition. I also have the CD album with the 4 Bonus Tracks, and I've got the Collector's Edition!

I still have it but its not in great shape. I think you will find it is worthless because they sold millions of them.

Maybe the first press with just the Red Weed picture instead of the booklett has worth.

Maybe... Is there actually a booklet like that, Loz???

I've never heard anything more about it but back in 78 a friend of my sister brought the album round and it didn't have the booklet, it had a sheet with Red Weed picture and surrounding that it had all the writing. Track lists etc. I listened to it with my Mum and she bought me the album a few weeks later and it had the booklet, which I saw for the first time.
I w onder if Horsel commen can shed any light on this. I always assumed the early released records only had a sheet and not the booklet, because the art wasn't ready.

So, it was an unreleased version?

Post subject:

No not unreleased but First batch of release. I think they put records out in the shops, with just the sheet in at first and then a bit later the booklet was introduced.

I see..., so you have a version WITHOUT the booklet. Must be very valuable.

No look back at what I was saying. We borrowed it back in 1978 and then gave it back, then my mum bought me my own copy, but that had the full booklet. ](*,)

Now I get it. You first had it on loan, and then you had your own copy.

So that's the only evidence I have of it. I'd love to know if anyone can confirm that the origional first wave of LPs had just a sheet. Or did they run out of booklets because of the demand and put some out with just the sheet? :-k

That could be possible, I don't know myself (I wasn't born yet in 1978!).

If you watch the DVD again I think Jeff mentions haveing the art work done before the album was finished :-k

Your right he does doesn't he? Hmmm. Okay so maybe they sold more than expected and the printers fell behind on the booklet. The record company not wanting to stall sales, put out copies without the booklet and just the sheet, and you could maybe send away for the booklet, and once they had caught up, you'd get one through the post.

I could do with posing this question on the Jeff Wayne Musical Threads, in the hope that someone, Horsel common seems most likely, will no the answer.

My brother bought the LP back in 78, I bought the double cassette pack in 80, the cassettes didn't have the booklet with it of course, but there was a leaflet inside that you could send off for a copy of the booklet. do you remember whether there was a cut out bit on the red weed picture you are talking about, to send off? :-s

No. But I have a feeling it did.

Are you sure it was the LP and not just a 12" Single?
