Fantastic sculpt Lonesome...You're very talented. I think I've mentioned this to you before , but have you tried "Supersculpy"?...It's what all the proffessional sculptors use and is BRILLIANT. Have you any more sculpts to show us? |

Cheers 'Klaatu' I think you or someone else has mentioned Supersculpy to me before. The trouble is my sculptures are usually very big and I'm very tight when it comes to forking out money  Nemesis was quite a small model, only around 18" high but I had a severed Dragons Head that was three and a half foot long from nose to bloody stump and this Deinonychus is stood in front of a six foot radiator (you work it out)

No, I made him back in 1995 and sold him to one of our local Dentists, he had it for about a year then one of his Nurses knocked it off the table and it was sent back to me for repairs, after repairing it I told the Dentist it was ready for collection it then sat on a bench at work for three years, so I dusted it off and sold it again to an antiques shop owner I sometimes do restoration work for, Which was nice

It probably took me about 4 / 5 weeks to make (as it's only a hobby, there are no deadlines to meet) the repair job was done in a couple of weeks, I took the opportunity of improving the models position and pose and covered the entire model in a layer of papier mache pulp which takes a long time to dry and must be sculpted as it drys, when it's dry it's as hard as wood. As a kid I was obsessed about Dinosaurs so I have many books on the subject, but one of my best sauces of inspiration came from 'Jurassic Park' Not many people know the Velociraptors in the film are actually designed on the much more primitive Deinonychus. The Velociraptor had a very bird-like body, much slimmer, the jaws were not as deep as the Deinonychus'. and a Velociraptor is much much smaller, probably not much of a problem to an active man. but the name Velociraptor sounds better than Deinonychus so Hollywood changed history

When you were a kid at school did you ever make a papier mache Piggy bank, using a balloon covered with stripes of newspaper with egg-box cups for snout and feet? This Stegosaurus was made in a very similar way except I used papier mache pulp and carved the head, neck, tail and legs out of polystyrene and the plates on it's back are cut out of thick cardboard covered with papier mache pulp. This model was also sold to the same antiques dealer as the Deinonychus model.

Cheers 'Klaatu' A great site I could spend hours there. no I hadn't heard of Tony McVey before today. there are some really good models and sculptures of his, thanks again.
Talking of Elephants, A few years ago at work we received a new type of dental acrylic that was injected under the pressure of three tones, this removed the porosity problems inherent with large dentures, to test the new material we decided to make something very large that could not be made out of standard acrylic, so I made a Pink, winged Elephant drinking a bottle of Gin. It has been very popular and has appeared at more Dental shows and exhibitions that our company has. Last time it went out to an exhibitions it came back without the bottle so we decided not to send it out again

I also made a 'Baby Triceratops' and 'Baby Brontosaurus' but they were real piggy banks. I made then look like cartoon characters, they were sitting back on their haunches with their mouths open so you could roll money down their throats, my nieces have them now. |
