For those who have read 'The Time Machine' What Do You Think Happened to the Time Traveller and his Machine?. this is how Wells ended the book
Quote:
EPILOGUE

One cannot choose but wonder. Will he ever return? It may be that he swept back into the past, and fell among the blood-drinking, hairy savages of the Age of Unpolished Stone; into the abysses of the Cretaceous Sea; or among the grotesque saurians, the huge reptilian brutes of the Jurassic times. He may even now--if I may use the phrase--be wandering on some plesiosaurus-haunted Oolitic coral reef, or beside the lonely saline lakes of the Triassic Age. Or did he go forward, into one of the nearer ages, in which men are still men, but with the riddles of our own time answered and its wearisome problems solved? Into the manhood of the race:

I think the time machine could still be traveling back through time till it reaches the begining of time and space and can't go any further, unable to move in time it will overload and go bang (A REALY BIG BANG)

Have you read the book oever? It's a very small Book I read it in an evening, from cover to cover.
My favourite scene in the book is near the end when the Time Traveller journeys to the end of the earth's life, the Sun has swollen to a Red Giant and there is very little oxygen to breath, but there is still life, there's a creature that, from Wells' description sounds very much like a Martian flopping around in the sea. it's Wells at his scientific best.

Another Nice pic. The sun is indeed gigantic! I bet Mercury and Venus have melted already in this stage...

Ah' now, if you read the book, Wells does mention the transit of one of the inner planets across the face of the sun.

I didn't say it was a Martian, its just that wells' description of the creature is very similar to his description of the Martians in WOTW, here's a close up.

Those are fantastic pictures. Great idea about traveling to the very begining or end and the consequences. I think that he went back to his new girl and just helped rebuild the human race. He may have done little jaunts here and there to bring back bits of technology to help, but the love of a woman, probably took away his desire to travel.
I also read the book in only a few hours, one evening. I did that with War of the Worlds too.

I love the Time Traveler. The end is great. Like you say lonesome, it is Wells at his scientific best. The recent movie was trash.

He tries that in the excellent sequel 'The Time Ships' by Stephen Baxter, with disastrous consequences.

This picture is a bit like a 'Where's Wally' picture. How many Morlocks can you find?, not counting the Sphinx.
