Klaatu, as you know, I've always been well impressed by your illustrations and designs - do not muck about with them! Do not make them more fluid! That way lies crapness!

I think he should leave them too. However the tripods in the book are meant to be very fluid are they not?

Your tripods have a real fluidity to them I think, Lonesome. It's that slight bend in the legs, and the angles of the joints that do it. Your machines look as though they gallop along.

Fluid in their movements, but not so fluid as to have completely flexible, tentacle-like legs like Speilberg's. I think you can take this fluidity thing too far, and if combined with an excessive bio-engineered look (which a lot of designers have gone for since Giger) you're in danger of ending up with an amorphous blob. They are clearly machines, after all, with jointed limbs, but machines which are so animated in terms of their movements as to appear alive. Slightly off-topic there, but there you go...

Good move. Maybe you should just cut their toe nails a bit though. Nothing drastic just a clip.

Nah...The bottom half of the legs are like BLADES...for cutting through trees.buildings and anything else that gets in their way.
I know that description is not in the book, It's just my little contribution.

Still a great design 'Klaatu' I like the segmented body that can twist around (as seen in you Thunder Child picture) =D>
The leading edges of the feet of my FM are sharp as well for cutting through any obstacle or trap. Great minds think alike =P~ oops a little drooling problem there :D
