Hello it is good to be here, and i hope to make some really nice friends, and hope you will look upon me as a friend too.
If any of you are going to see the film today, as it is now on general release to the public, can you let me know what you thought of the film, and if you compared it to the original, would you say it was, better, worse, or about the same.
I have to go into Hospital for as op, so it will be a while before i get to see it [ it's only a Carpal Tunnel op ]
I hope those of you who see it, have a lovely time, and take care.

Welcome to the forum buddy, and I'm sure this is going to be a great movie.
The Tempest is an advanced assault vehicle, which carries two heavy Heat-Rays and a Canister Launcher.

Hi and welcome.
I saw it tonight. It's a great film with huge emotional impact. As a lover of the book I still have problems with it, but that didn't stop it from being a great film.
Hope you recover soon and pop some more posts our way.

I liked it. I dragged my self to the theature expecting to be let down but it was actually ok considering I was expecting an alien invasion that ends ghost in the machine style.
I'm not sure I know how to compare the film with the original 1953 version. I know I will probably watch this version more often then the old one just because of the time period I grew up in.
Its not quite as action packed as people were expecting it to be. And the footage of the monsters are usually done in quick takes. You rarely get to see a good look at them or the whole of them for that matter. Usually you catch a glimps of them from an obscure angle through a window or just see their tenticles interacting with the fleeing pedestrians below. This is done to show the scale of the beasts (When shown with the pedestriansyou never quite get to see the whole thing just quick pans across the huge tripds as people are pulled into the air.) I actually think this approach was pretty good. Had we kept seeing perfect shots of the tripods they would would
have looked over posed and unnatural. Much of the action is just trying to get away from the beasts, you don't see to much heroics in the flick.

No, and that is very much like the book, these things are just too big to try and pick a fight with.
There were scenes in the film so powerful I could feel my heart thumping like hell. If anyone out there has not watched it yet, what are you waiting for? I'd give it 10 / 10 The best film I've seen in years.

My heart was thumping to. The momentum of panic infused me. palpable fear. There was a hell of a lot in the spirit of the book. In the book a couple of surprise attacks bring down a few Tripods and after that they kick our asses good.
