I can say it was gigantic based on a few things. We only see what looks like the head part, and it is away from the window somewhat but takes up a large part of the view. It is being shown from a low perspective, as though we are looking up at it. Peicing together evidence from the clips, Ray obviously leaves his little girl in a house. He tells her to stay but she doesn't. We see the bit where she is stood outside on her own and we are looking down at her, and something is coming to get her. She obviously gets caught and put in a basket. The review we read, said that Ray saves someone from a basket. Well I doubt he'd save anyone but his little girl. The bit where the foot comes down and ray is running behind it is maybe him chasing the handling machine to save his daughter. and that is a big foot. Also as the thing passes the window it is making a lot of noise with each step, which indicates something very heavy with a big stride.
That's it. I'll hold my hands up and you can shoot me if I'm wrong, I'll even draw a target on my head. 8-[

I believe the smaller one is based on that brief clip where something moves past the window behind Dakota. (Another one of those Pal homages.) I hope the real thing looks less ALIEN-ish. (I like the original, but i'm getting burned out on HR Giger knockoffs.

The thing that moves past the window is probably a handling machine. And it is gigantic, the art picture has a man stood next to it to show scale surely?

Yea I don't think Steven would use the Xenormorph looking critter.

No, maybe I have a false memory. :-k

But it will be a handling machine, and they catch people and put them in baskets. So I reckon peicing everything together as I did, it has to be big. Mainly because that foot coming down with Ray running behind it is I believe the handling machine.

I imagined that was a fighting machines foot, we know the fighting machines collect people, we see them plucking them from the water.
Wells never mentioned the handling machines catching folk, that's only in Jeff's musical version.
anyway we shall know in 6-7 days from now :D

Jees, I got that wrong. What threw me though was that Keopp had said that he had based his aliens on the descriptions in the book. Of which my avatar is pretty as close as it gets. So when I saw that glimpse of something passing the window in the trailers, I didn't think for one minute it was actually them in their altogether.

I new it wasn't a fighting machine and so reasoned it had to be a handling machine.

But I stand corrected.

I didn't like the physique of the aliens at all.

This is the books description, which is far better and much more alien -

They were, I now saw, the most unearthly creatures it is possible to conceive. They were huge round bodies — or, rather, heads — about four feet in diameter, each body having in front of it a face. This face had no nostrils — indeed, the Martians do not seem to have had any sense of smell, but it had a pair of very large dark-coloured eyes, and just beneath this a kind of fleshy beak. In the back of this head or body — I scarcely know how to speak of it — was the single tight tympanic surface, since known to be anatomically an ear, though it must have been almost useless in our dense air. In a group round the mouth were sixteen slender, almost whiplike tentacles, arranged in two bunches of eight each. These bunches have since been named rather aptly, by that distinguished anatomist, Professor Howes, the HANDS. Even as I saw these Martians for the first time they seemed to be endeavouring to raise themselves on these hands, but of course, with the increased weight of terrestrial conditions, this was impossible. There is reason to suppose that on Mars they may have progressed upon them with some facility.

what bugs me is the fact that they said in interviews that the aliens were based heavely on the ones in the book. Don't see it. :-s
