FROM : http://www.app.com/

Steven Spielberg's tossing Tom Cruise to the Martians. Peter Jackson's handing Naomi Watts over to a 900-pound-plus gorilla. Tim Burton's turning Johnny Depp loose in Willy Wonka's candyland.

Spielberg's motion picture of H. G. Wells' "War of the Worlds," the 19th-century story of a martians' attack, turned into a nerve-wracking radio show by Orson Welles in 1938, has area fans in high anticipation.

That includes Julie Scully, a Howell resident whose home is in the development where the "War of the Worlds" production team filmed last November. Scully, the mother of two, and her husband, Shawn, plan to see the movie at least once. She's a Cruise fan, to boot.

"I got within two arms-lengths' of him (Cruise). He has a great smile and he was very nice to everybody," said Scully of the actor during a break from filming.

Scully said the production team shot a brief sequence of Cruise getting out of a car on a street in her development and a long scene in the woods near her home at Ardena Acres.

"My husband wants to see it because he's a big sci-fi fan, and I'm dying to see if our house is in the movie!" Scully said.

Bruce Foster, Oceanport, a screenwriter, Grammy-nominated singer/songwriter and self-described "huge fan" of thoughtful sci-fi flicks, is already revved up about "War of the Worlds," based partly on the coming attractions he has seen on TV.

"They're showing a scene with the catch phrase "They're already here!' That gets me right away. I'm expecting it to be a wow!" said Foster.

Foster says Spielberg's "Close Encounters of the Third Kind" (1977) contains an homage to the Gene Barry, 1953 version of "War of the Worlds," so he's wondering how Spielberg will handle the same scene in his version. Foster also hopes to see the new movie at New York's Ziegfeld Theatre, the 1,500-seat house where he saw all the "Star Wars" movies, as well as "Close Encounters of the Third Kind."

"I'm really curious to see what Spielberg does because he's never made an unfriendly alien movie. I'm ready for a scary Steven Spielberg movie," Foster said.

Yet in a year when big Hollywood return engagements include the remakes "War of the Worlds," "King Kong" and "Charlie and the Chocolate Factory," aren't we all really looking forward to one last outing with George Lucas and the Skywalker clan?
