FROM : <a href='http://www.the-signal.com/News/ViewStory.asp?storyID=6586' target='_blank'>http://www.the-signal.com/</a><br /><br />The War of the Worlds is due to rage in Canyon Country for three days beginning today, but it won’t be Martians invading, it’ll be a film crew from Paramount Pictures.<br /><br />Steven Spielberg’s remake of Paramount’s 1953 “War of the Worlds� explodes on Mystery Mesa at 2 p.m. today, running until 7 a.m. for three days in a row.<br /><br />Residents of Vasquez Canyon Road found notices about the filming on their doorknobs, and for days several trailer signs usually reserved for long-term traffic problems have been warning drivers in the Mint Canyon area about the filming.<br /><br />Why the fuss? According to the door-hangers, filming will include “large fireball explosions� and “full load automatic gunfire,� as well as “smoke effects� and exterior driving scenes.<br /><br />Mystery Mesa is a still-relatively-remote area south of Vasquez Canyon Road between Sierra Highway and Bouquet Canyon Road. It’s a popular filming location.<br /><br />Last week “War of the Worlds� was filming in Piru.<br /><br />The Santa Clarita Valley should be a familiar location for Spielberg, whose 1971 film “The Duel� was shot in Mint and Soledad canyons.<br /><br />Fireballs and automatic gunfire suggest more gripping special effects than the 1953 version, which featured lamppost-looking floating machines that emitted an eerie noise and death rays.<br /><br />But the plot sounds similar: “As Earth is invaded by Martian war machines, one family fights for survival� is Paramount’s in-production description. The film stars Tom Cruise and Dakota Fanning.<br /><br />
