And a pic, text and link to prove it!.....

Image

http://et.tv.yahoo.com/movies/2005/02/07/waroftheworldsbts/

The world tuned in to the Super Bowl on Sunday and was blown away by the first, exciting 'War of the Worlds' trailer. Now, ET has an exclusive, first look at the STEVEN SPIELBERG/TOM CRUISE collaboration that will have you talking for days!

Based on the classic, cautionary tale by H.G. WELLS, the new 'War of the Worlds' is a contemporary retelling of the extraordinary battle for the future of humankind through the eyes of one American family fighting to survive it. Playing that family is Cruise as Ray Ferrier, MIRANDA OTTO (of 'The Lord of the Rings' trilogy) as his wife Mary Ann and DAKOTA FANNING (currently onscreen with ROBERT DE NIRO in 'Hide and Seek') as his daughter Rachel. Oscar winner TIM ROBBINS also stars in the film as Ogilvy, an astronomer. The film, invading theaters June 29, is written by DAVID KOEPP ('Spider-Man,' 'Jurassic Park') and directed by Spielberg, his second collaboration with Cruise since 2002's futuristic 'Minority Report.'

This isn't the first time 'War of the Worlds' has made it to the big screen. In 1953, producer GEORGE PAL stunned audiences with cutting-edge special effects and a story that took advantage of the Cold War and its heightened paranoia of a Russian invasion. But it was ORSON WELLES and his infamous 1938 radio broadcast of War of the Worlds that people remember most.

On Halloween night, Welles' radio play used a groundbreaking approach by staging a dance hall program interrupted with "breaking news" of a "metal cylinder" containing strange creatures from Mars armed with "death rays." Residents of New York and New Jersey who tuned in late believed there was an actual attack occurring, creating a panic. Telephone lines were tied up with literally thousands of calls from listeners trying to contact the police, and some even gathered their belongings and tried to make for the hills! The incident made the front page of The New York Times.

Watch ET for more 'War of the Worlds' exclusives!

Interesting! All the shots of running crowds suggests (Hopefully) we'll eventually see tripods chasing them.

Anyone got the full ET footage or seen what happened at the end of that clip, as it seems to just fade off.... how much more was there?

Seen the full version now, the one hosted on here is complete (just minus the Superbowl trailer that was repeated)

I watched that last night (it's Tues. Afternoon, where I am), and that ET thing was pretty much a waste of time. I havent had time yet to watch the yahoo one, but last night's report only had a few quotes from Speilberg, a few "filming" clips from still's we've already seen (Cruise and Fanning running in a crowd of people), then the Superbowl "clip" aired, and that was it, before it pulling back out to Mary Hart's usual banter after any trailer they show: "Ohhhh, looks scary, I can hardly wait!" ....Nothing much was missed :(

Any idea when a real trailer comes out? I'm willing to bet we'll get one with Episode 3...

The destroyed neighborhood, the plane crash scene and the people scrambling to get on the ferry looked like they will be very intense in the final film.

Granted, my expectations were pretty low for this - it is ET, after all - so anything beyond little interview clips with Spielberg & Cruise was a nice bonus.

I'm also sure Leper about had a brain hemmorage when he saw the promo page for it hyping the TOM CRUISE sci-fi epic "War of the Worlds!" They may as well have added, "Based on a book by some old English guy."

There's a good screen capture gallery of it at eveofthewar.com. Big crowds of fleeing people, the ferry escape, the plane crash, major destruction from Martians and the plane crashing into (apparently) a residential area, it all looks pretty good. It's easy to imagine some of these scenes with tripods added should make for a very intense movie. No sign of Cruise or anyone else even attempting to "fight back" against the Martians, just trying desperately to survive. It doesn't look like Spielberg is going to be sugar-coating the story at all.

New trailer should hit tomorrow. Canna wait!
