I have added a small clip (1mb - no audio) from the Harryhausen Chronicles, this features a section on his 1950 War Of The Worlds film, 16mm colour footage (which I must admit is quite amusing!)

The Harryhausen Chronicles is a fascinating documentary of the life's work of the special effects creator behind such films as Mighty Joe Young, It Came From Outer Space, Jason & The Argonauts, and Clash Of The Titans. Narrated by Leonard Nimoy, it features special appearances by George Lucas and Ray Bradbury. The DVD version includes early test footage, a creature gallery with over 40 figures, and an interview with producer-director Richard Schickel.

IMDB INFO HERE

17 Second Video Clip

Thanks to HC for pointing this out...

Released on 2 disc DVD 'Special Edition' by 'Sparkhill' - Ray Harryhausen - The Early Years Collection features tons of material and behinds the scenes footage and interviews, FX shots and story boards spread over 2 discs and lasting some 233 minutes (5.1 audio)

One of the many chapters includes the aborted War Of The Worlds that Ray worked upon between 1949 -1950, shown as 16mm and in colour.

A previous video called 'Harryhausen Chronicles' was released some years ago, but this new DVD is a lot better.

H_C
http://www.waroftheworldsonline.com

The footage is, as H_C mentions, colour 16mm, and consists of the cylinder unscrewing, a Martian slowly emerging, and then toppling over the side. There is no Fighting Machine footage, as Harryhausen never even made a Fighting Machine model.

If you're not particularly interested in Harryhausen but are only intrigued because of the WotW connection, then there probably isn't much point buying it. But if you're even only the slightest bit interested in him and his work, buy it!!! :)
