I thought it vwould be good on this forum if we could use this post to highlight all the other works, such as books, films, cartoons, adverts, comics, etc, that elements from War of the Worlds have ended up in. Obvious lifts from the book.

Justice League (Cartoon) Pilot Episode. Has tripod war machines, heat ray, and falling star type landing, and invasion of course.

League of Extraordinary Gentlemen - has a behind the scenes look at the invasion, very faithful on the surface. They still die of bugs but only thanks to a superbug created by Doctor Moreau, which is fired into London, killing the martians and all human survivors. "The Martians Died of bugs, the people died of Martians." Lies M.

Superman/War of the Worlds. Resets the story in 50's America and has Man of Steel, who can't actually fly take them on. Martians still get ill but try and fight it off with Luthors aid.

Tripods TV Series. Blatant rip off, a sort of, what if they succeeded in their invasion, and what they get up to after.

Half-Life 2 Computer game has Tripod war machines.

The Mini advert from a few years back. had tripods.

Attack of the Clones - Tripod fighting machines.

Update. Seeing as no ones bothered with this one!

War of the worlds Dispatches - Book with several short stories of other perspectives of invasion. Silly though because they are set in other counties and the Martians only get as far as securing London and its surrounds.

David Cian's Mega War of the Worlds takes place 100 years after H.G. Wells' invasion in 1901. Earth Forces have gigantic robots manned by men and women dedicated to defending Earth. However the Martians have serious updates on their tech...and this time, no mere germ is going to stop them!

But what will stop them? Man, Earth has hard times. I saw on a Star Trek site that a race called the Xindi used a superweapon that annihilated Earth in 2154. :a010: :a009: :a103: :a013: :alien2:  That was, fortunately, in an alternate timeline. :) And in an other timeline, Earth gets entirely assimilated by the Borg :a103: , but the Enterprise - E changed things back to normal. Why are some hostile aliens picking on Earth? I know and understand the Martian reason, but I find the reasons for the other aliens totally irrelevant! :a091: :a093:

They are jealous of our little blue globe because it is the place where that great film Director, Hines was born. :a112:

Then why don't we send him to somewhere else so they can leave Earth alone? :-k

I'm sick and tired of seeing pics on the net where Earth gets destroyed by that Xindi Superweapon from the Star Trek: Enterprise episode Twilight! :a091:

This is a fabulous idea. We could put him in a rocket and fire him into the void.

Then the Martians for example would have a good subject to experiment with...

Final bad news: "Mega War of the Worlds" was cancelled for some asinine reason right before the publication date. Now we'll never know...

 I've not seen this thread before, I don't know how I missed it.
Here are some illustrations from the 1930's by Frank R. Paul as you can see he was heavily influenced by Wells' Tripods. Loz is using one of his WotW pieces as an Avatar.

Hey that's all great stuff Lonesome.

Do you still have that model? Love to see it. :a028:

I used to collect lampshades when i was a kid with the intention of using one as the main body of a FM. However I didn't have your ability to see it through. Still don't.

Did you know that the artist used it as source material already?

Author: Lonesome Crow [ Wed May 24, 2006 7:26 pm ]
Post subject:

Yes, I saw it as a short clip of film footage many years ago and recognised it, then I found it on the net the other day.
I don't know if it's because I dabble with paints or what it is but I do have the knack of recognising artists source material when it pops up.
