Does anyone remember the Mini advertisement that was screened on both television and at cinemas about 2 - 3 years ago that paid homage to War of the Worlds?<br /><br />It was the first in the 'It's a Mini Adventure' campaign, and featured Martians (using both flying saucers and incredibly fast-moving tripods) invading Earth and blowing up sections of London, while the population ran about screaming in panic.<br /><br />A new Mini suddenly darted out of a lock-up garage, swerved around the tripods and sped off across London bridge, with several tripods in pursuit. The chase continues out into the countryside, where the voiceover informs us that "new Mini leads Martian into a trap" - a cattle grid.<br /><br />Faced with an obstacle against which they have no defence, the Martians cancel the invasion and go home. Voiceover: "Mini saves the world. The end."<br /><br />The special effects were top notch, and it was probably one of the best (and funniest) adverts of the last few years. Anyone want to bet that it will be bought back when Paramount's WOTW is released?<br /><br /><br /> |
