How many of you have read Leaugue of Extraordinary Gentlemen Volume Two?

Volume One ends with very last panel depicting the Cylanders coming to Earth.
So Volume two was eagerly awaited by me and I wasn't dissapointed.
It is War of the Worlds in every detail, apart from the fact that this time we see the story from the view point of the League. The League have to try and stop the invasion. The Nautilis is left stranded in the Thames when the Martians, who find out about Nemo's ship by the treacherous Invisable Man, release the Red Weed which chokes the rivers and renders the submarine of legend stuck and unable to perform. The league go in search of Doctor Moreau, who has created a superbug which is later fired into London in a shell and released killing all the Martians and most Londoners who are still alive. This is covered up by the government who claim the Martian deaths due to their lack of imunity.

It's a great comic and one should not be put off by the awful film, which bears little resemblence to Volume One on which it was based.

The author is Alan Moore, (Watchmen, Killing Joke, V for Vendetta, From Hell, Tom Strong, Promethia) and Kevin O'Neal, (Legends of the Dark Mite, Mite-Fall, Nemesis).

If you've read it what did you think of it?

Its a very adult comic, the Invisable Man gets buggered to death by Mr. Hyde for God's sake. The writing is very deep. Sorry for another spoiler there.

Vol 2 is superb. Its a shame more WOTW fans don't know about it. It has the best Tripod designs bar none for my money and Moore's faithfulness to Wells text is, er, extraordinary!
I suppose the rather lacklustre film version of the League has put a lot of people off.
Damn shame.
It has to be said that D'isralei's online version for Dark Horse is shaping up nicely.

I agree with all of that.

What I couldn't uinderstand about the film was why it was aimed at kids. Because those Victorian literiture characters are not familliar to them, so the effect is lost on them. It should have been an adult film keeping in the spirit of the comics, which pull no punches.

True, I think Fox underestimated the fact that outside the fanboy community, not too many folk in the States were going to know who all these characters were, hence Tom Sawyers addition.
The other thing to bear in mind is that Moores is joyously unpolitically correct throughtout, he keeps to the spirit of the times and anyone who isn't an Englishman is fair game. I suspect the references to racism and homophobia would of sent the moral majority screaming.
Plus, if you're going to include a character that's written by Oscar Wilde, then you're setting yourself a very high bar to aim for in terms of dialouge!!!

Yeah. I know Moore hated the film. Apperently V for Vendetta is really bad too.

I've yet to read it, I expect I'll watch the film first so I can get a wee bit of enjoyment out of it, then I'll read the trade.

Moore always gets a rought deal with his film adaptions!

I bought Volume II today from music zone. I haven't had time to do much more than a quick flick through, but the FMs look cool

Hope you enjoy it! Its theone of the best depictions of Wells story for my money.
I'd be interested to hear what you make of Moore's use of the material!
