Elementary my dear oever532. The attacker is, of course and without a doubt, somebody who is not being friendly to those being attacked.
We saw Tripods wading up the Thames, cutting through bridges as though they were paper; Waterloo Bridge, Westminister Bridge. One appeared above Big Ben. Ulla!

I know that. But I wonder who is attacking the attacked? Who is not being friendly to the attacked?!
The Tempest is an advanced assault vehicle, which carries two heavy Heat-Rays and a Canister Launcher.

I know you knew, it was a joke. I do that to everybody when they ask a question I have an answer to, but if I don't have the answer they are looking for I give an answer in broad generalities. This way I'm still right but wrong in a friendly way.
However, I do have one possibility as a possible answer to your question, and that is the "Six cannon shots fired in quick succession, and then six again, and that was all," that the narrator describes during his stay in the fifth cylinder's impact crater in the good book.
But since Lonesome is the author of the comic, only he knows for certain.

I would have thought it was pretty obvious who the attacker/attackers -was/were, what sort of weapon was used? was it an energy beam? No, so you can rule out a Martian with a scanner (heat-ray) Was Phil shot through the head with a soft; over-ripe tomato? No, so you can probably rule out a barrow-boy from Hyde market. what sort of weapon has a "CRACK!" like report?
I'll give you a little clue, It's not the penguins either.

Of course! All the evidence adds up. The unfriendly attackers who are being quite unfriendly are without a doubt...the tortoises! They must be avenging the ill fated tortoise whose blood was stolen.

They must be avenging the ill fated tortoise whose blood was stolen. That's a good observation and as a couple of days have gone by since the Martians unprovoked attack on the tortoise, the delay in response would also point the finger of blame at the tortoises as they are so slow.
Also tortoises are well known for their deadly accuracy with a Lee-Enfield rifle and were often employed during the First World War as snipers in the British army .

Looking forward to it (such a phrase is redundant).

Wow, this continues to keep me entertained & eagerly awaiting each installment, yet dreading the inevitable end!
Those binoculars Sharon used look familiar to me... are they based upon those used in the tv series UFO, and later in Space: 1999? Or is that just a coincidence?
Insert witty, yet philosophical remark here...

Maybe they're the good 'ol GSFB's (Generic Sci-Fi Binoculars).

I Googled binoculars Space 1999 and all I found was a pair of kids binoculars that looked like a normal pair of binoculars in red and white plastic with Space 1999 sticker on, but when I Googled UFO I see what you mean, they are very similar.
But no I didn't intentionally copy their binoculars I just wanted to create something that would be recognised as a pair of binoculars but a bit different.

Interesting coincidence. I'd figured that perhaps this was another sci-fi reference you'd snuck in. Oh, well.
By the way, love the calendar & the pin-up girls. Laugh-out-loud funny!

Very long time; no post. I have even forgot to check on this for the past several months! Good to see it is still going. Congratulations on all of the great work you have done. Cannot wait for the next episode and to see what you have in store for the ending.
