Comic Book Artist is a retrospective magazine dedicated to the American comic book industry, printed by Twomorrows Publishing. Compilations of the best articles and features that have appeared in the magazine, together with some new material, are also published periodically.

The latest such compilation, Comic Book Artist Collection Volume 3, will be published in April his year, concentrating on the horror and sci-fi output of Marvel Comics during the early Seventies. Apparently, amongst the new material is a story entitled 'War of the Worlds on the Planet of the Apes', in which Killraven and the Freemen (from the 'War of the Worlds' storyline in Amazing Adventures) encounter the characters from Marvel's 1970s comic book continuation of the Planet of the Apes movies.

The story is described as 'hilarious' in the advertising material for Volume 3. I'm not sure whether it's a new spoof created especially for the collection, or actual material produced in the 70s that was filed away after bring rejected as a bad idea.

Comic Book Artist Collection Volume 3 will be a softcover collection with 224 pages, retailing at $24.95.

In this strange comic strip, were there laser weapons and tripods as well? Was it now the Apes who used tripods to subjugate men?

Interesting. As it is, Marvel reworked Killraven stories into Planet of the Apes stories for their UK comic. They renamed him "Apeslayer" and redrew the Martians as apes.

True enough, but the original question is...will the apes have tripods and laser weapons...also, how did the War of the Species begin? How did Man try to fight off the Ape takeover?

Can you give a more detailed explanation? :-s

The Tempest is an advanced assault vehicle, which carries two heavy Heat-Rays and a Canister Launcher.

No, It wasn't about the questions, Xuxa, I meant the word 'bump'.

"bump" is used when you want to 'bump' up a topic so it does not get buried.

Anyway, do the apes have tripods and laser weapons? Also, does anyone have scans concerning how the War between Man and Apes began? I am quite curious.

Sorry for the delay in replying to your question, Loz. My original post contains all the information I have regarding this Planet of the Apes/Killraven story, so now you know as much as I do.

Here are the 8 chapters of the Planet of the Apes dealing with Apeslayer/Killraven.

http://pota.goatley.com/marvel-ultimate.html

Go to the bottom of the page for Apeslayer Saga, 8 chapters.

There are PDF files for all 8 chapters. And yes, the Apes use tripods and lasers.
