Gameloft takes on the upcoming Spielberg summer flick. New gameplay details!
Gameloft's room was full of slick games, including its mobile take on the upcoming "War of the Worlds" movie, directed by Steven Spielberg. Unfortunately, because the alien designs are still under lock-and-key, we cannot show you screens of the game in action. But we can certainly slip you a few game details.
You control one of the Tripods. The lumber alien craft tromps across the American landscape. Our quick test allowed us to stomp New Jersey into oblivion, blasting puny earth defenses. Earth tries to put up a fight, but it's just no match for alien tech. Stealth fighters zoomed overhead, but we effortless shot the down. Warships tried to approach our spindly legs, but again, they only went "boom."
The Tripod has a few means of attack. Basic lasers erupt from the top of the craft. A small purple sight helps you aim. Because the tripod is always in motion, you just move the head around. A target sighting pops up on earth defenses when they are in your sights. You can also grab things with one of the Tripod's arms and crush it.
War of the Worlds is close to release. Gameloft will have it out day-and-date with the movie release next month. Only then can we unveil screens of the game in action -- but trust us, it looks way cool.
