Here are some sketches I did from the description of the tripods in 'The Space Machine' by Christopher Priest, when the main characters see the tripods for the first time their legs are together (the tripods legs not the people's legs) in a single column or pillar so they thing they are watch towers.
These are much smaller than the Tripods that visit Earth.

No but I recognize it from the model you made. Very interesting design but i'm not sure about the cheek bones. The Martians are boneless aren't they?

cartilaginous skeleton (Like a shark's) in the face region only otherwise the eyes would not work, you need something to attach the muscles to. 8)

And yes it is the sketch I made my model to.

The same program I always use :D Paint Shop Pro 7.4.
I've been using PSP for seven years now and I'm still finding great features I never found before or using old techniques in a new way, it's a great program.
