Ever since Orson Welles' broadcast there have been different takes on the panic broadcast scenario. First there was Special Bulletin which featured terrorists holding Charelston hastage with an atomic device and there was England's frightfest Ghostwatch which featured a terrifying look at a house haunted by a gastly entity known as "Pipes"( will this ever come out on region 1 DVD, I need to see this!). In this post-9/11 world our fears can be riled by something we see on the news and just what if the Martians were replaced with terrorists or a deadly plague and they wanted to do a horror related one they should replace the Martians with zombies.

In 1994 they came out with a made-for-TV movie called "Without Warning", in which a trio of asteroids hits the Earth in mostly barren places. Again, they had the "news coverage", bit, including real reporters such as Sander Vanocur and Bree Walker Lampley. All sorts of weird things start happening, and it finally looks as if the asteroid strikes were the means an alien civilization was using to contact us. As might be expected, things end disastrously, and anyone who tuned in without seeing it from the start would definitely think he was seeing the end of the world.

"Without Warning" came out in DVD form in 2003 from Madacy Entertainment Group, Ltd. I got my copy years ago, so you'd better search the Internet for it, starting with American dealers. If that doesn't work, the DVD jacket says the thing was manufactured and distributed by Madacy Home Video, P.O. Box 1445, St. Laurent, Quebec, Canada, H4L 4Z1. Despite the Quebec address, it's in English, full screen, and is an hour and twenty-nine minutes long. Because its so realistically-scary, it's rated PG. Good luck finding it.

Back in the 1980s I saw a clip of film, supposedly of a landing on Mars, it looked very much like the moon landings of the 60s and 70s, when the dust cleared you saw a Baron landscape and then the camera rotates and focuses in on one of the lander's feet and you see something move beneath the dust on the ground. it was done very well because they didn't over do it and it took me in for a while. #-o

You mean the spot was part of some nobleman's estate? How could you tell it belonged to a baron, as opposed to, say, a viscount or a duke? Sounds like a crummy piece of real estate anyway; one might call it barren. :D

OH, ha, ha
This is what happens when you are so exhausted from trying to the keep everyone happy with the next section of 'The Invasion of Earth' you don't get around to answering your posts until the early hours of the morning and have your PC set to auto spell correct.
