For over 15 years I have been collecting items associated with Jeff Wayne's musical version of H.G.Wells science fiction classic
The War Of The Worlds. Collecting today is a big thing, so finding items from 1978 was a challenge. One of the hardest to find was in the way of 'shop' advertising features, as these kind of items were either put into the bins/skips, destroyed or sent back to the marketing department.
Below are 3 photographs of some of the 'rare' advertising items that are now in my collection.
1978 - This is a very rare American advertisement poster from early 1978, released by 'Columbia Records' to promote the 'then' forth-coming release of the double album. I particually like the slogan
The Last World War. The advertisement also mentions a special radio broadcast of the album sent via London. . . I purchased this a couple of years ago from a music auction.
1995 - This is the only one I have ever seen. One of the huge window cardboard cut-outs advertising the 1995 release of the double CD when it went under the new title of
The New Files and featuring 4 brand new mixes. . . . I purchased this from an old HMV store back in 1995, a couple of weeks before the store closed and moved premises - good timing that.
2005 - Bringing us bang up-to-date, this is the huge poster for the 7 disc
'Collector's Edition' released in June 2005. These posters were kindly sent to me by 'SonyBMG' to be added to my collection before the release of the album. From what I gather, the posters were never sent out to stores, making them very collectible.
