As many will already now, this coming summer will see the world wide re-launch of Jeff Wayne's multi million selling album 'The War Of The Worlds' in a number of exciting formats including SACD.<br /><br />SACD - Explained<br /><br />SACD (Super Audio Compact Disc) is the next generation of compact disc's. It has a higer storage capacity than a CD and the format allows for Surround Sound encoded playback. Compared to a CD it has a much higher resolution sound and offers a more faithful reproduction of the original source material. People who complain that CDs aren't as 'warm' as anologue vinyl LPs may find that certain something which was missing from a CD present in a SACD.<br /><br />Sony developed the format in conjunction with Phillips in the early 1980s. A SACD can also have upto 255 tracks, as opposed to the 99-track limit of a current CD.<br /><br />To listen to the SACD layer, you will require a SACD unit. Sony and a number of other manufacturers will be releasing both a stand-aloan SACD/CD players and hybrid DVD/SACD players. <br /><br />H_C
