No-one would have believed... that Jeff Wayne hadn't seen the most recent film version of War of the Worlds.

His name almost as synonymous with the story of Martians landing in Victorian England as its author HG Wells, having written and recorded the now classic 1978 album based on the science fiction tale, the irony is Wayne has been so busy with his latest project - a live touring version of his creation - that he's not had chance to catch the Spielberg/Cruise version that came out last year:

"I haven't seen it yet - not because I don't want to - in fact I have a DVD copy that [my wife] Geraldine gave me at Christmas," says Jeff.

"What happened was when all my new stuff [remastered special editions of the album] came out in June [2005] it was out about a week in front of the film opening here; I was sent by Sony BMG to other countries where the album was enjoying a renaissance, and every place I went I was always a week in front of it - and by the time I came back home to England it had closed in the cinemas.
