I never read the book but finally got my hands on it yesterday and am half way through it. Short book, short chapters but impresses so far are great. hes a very discriptive writer but some of the older language gets in the way but im really enjoying it.

I'm on chapter 3 of Book2 and he does seem to do into long descriptions now which sort of throw me off so I have to go back and re-read but it doesn't matter because it's still very interesting.

:( No he's not strong on descriptive narrative, which it probably why there are so many Fighting Machine designs. still it's a great story, isn't it? :D

I can't get enough of it, in fact. What I REALLY want to add to my collection is the FIRST print of the book... or at least an old version.

I have a 1955 copy in my collection, I just hope my old school don't want it back  [-X

My copy dates from 1967, but that's the English one. I've got Dutch copies from 1974, 1978 and 1984. And in the large book The Complete WOTW (which includes the 1938 Radio Broadcast Script) is another copy of the English version of the book. So I have it 5 times!

Well, I'm not planning to buy via the net... I rather look on markets for the older versions.

It would be even better to have the origional magazine prints of the story. :)

Right, those prints are even older!

Not just that but the story reads a little differently. Wells made changes to the novel.

Post subject:

That's because he novellised the intended episodic adventures as Jeff said it in the documentary in the CE.

Sure did.

So that's why some changes were made, to make the text look like a novel.

Post subject:

Yes and as a writer he may just decided to make some changes that he thought bettered the story.

Writers have the right to do that.
