Little Book of Horror: The War of the Worlds by Steve Niles and Ted McKeever is the Second Volume of the Unique Hardcover Horror Series.

San Diego, CA (April 18, 2005) Size doesn't always matter. Especially when it comes to a good, old-fashioned tale of terror. In July, IDW Publishing is unleashing a new take on H.G. Wells's classic science-fiction tale of alien assault.

Little Book Of Horror: The War of the Worlds is the second in a series of specially sized, hardcover collectible classics that re-tell some of the all-time classic masterpieces of horror. In this unique re-telling of H.G. Wells's The War of the Worlds, writer Steve Niles (Little Book of Horror: Frankenstein, 30 Days Of Night) works from the original text of the timeless novel, presenting the tale in prose excerpts. Ted McKeever (Eddy Current) provides the stunning and otherworldly painted art of Martians bent on conquering the planet Earth.

"I've read H.G. Wells's book and seen the movie based on that novel. And yet, it's no hyperbole to say that Ted McKeever has managed to visualize the horrific look and feel of a dire alien invasion more effectively than anything I've ever seen before," said IDW?s Editor-in-Chief Chris Ryall. Looks awesome, if or when you ever buy it I hope you post some images from the book in the gallery. Meanwhile, I'll try checking in different bookstores.

I got it recently, and to be honest I was a little disappointed.

Now, I love Ted McKeever's work and, on the whole, I like his approach to WotW - but not his Martians. Oh dear, they're a bit, well, humanoid... Okay, they're nasty looking blighters, but they're just not Wells' Martians.

And the text is too simplified, though given the format I don't suppose that could be helped.

That guy who made the Martians more humanoid is obviously (or maybe) a fan of Star Trek. ALL aliens there are Humanoid.

I checked on the website mentioned above for IDW and it said that the book is for mature readers. What are the things in the book that make it "mature"?

I think they're talking about detailed descriptions, like what you can see in horror movies. :mrgreen:
