Interesting. My first exposure to "The War of the Worlds" was a comic book version put out by the old Classics Illustrated company. For those of you unfamiliar with them, decades ago, they put out a long series of comic books bases on old-time novels like "Moby Dick", "Twenty Thousand Leagues Under the Sea", etc., historical accounts like Caesar's war commentaries about the conquest of Gaul and Bernal Diaz's account of the conquest of Mexico by Cortez, and biographical comics about everyone from Joan of Arc to Buffalo Bill, with a few odds and ends like zoo supplier Frank Buck's book "Bring 'Em Back Alive!" (dangerous animal catching in Asia). |
