i don know about anyone else but i find the invaison route the Martians take in WOTW quite odd. If they werent going to land in or very near London (they had the forces to effect such a landing) why would they land in Woking? I would have thought somewhere like the south coast that wouldnt have let them be surrounded would have been a better choice. Maybe the martians didnt have absolute control over where they landed or possibly its just another part of Wells wanting to show the audience what an invaison of a vastly superior force would be like - an enemy so powerful that no amount of tactical thinking would defeat them.

Actually if you think about it, the path of the Martians was quite clever...

During the late 1800's, Woking was a large city. It would have been a good strategical point for the Martians to conquer. London is only a few miles from there, and they could have taken the country easily.

Maybe HG Wells made them land there because he knew that area very well

Besides, the Martians could just take the M 25 to Leatherhead and straight up to London :D

If the martians had took the M25 I think they would still be stuck in traffic. And with that variable speed limit the would be getting fines galore, not to mention the London Congestion Charge man the Martians would be bankcrupt by the time they had taken it over lol

:)
